I’ve been in love with Paris since I was a little girl and have always wanted to speak the language and live the Parisian life. When The Hubs surprised me with our first trip to Paris I diligently studied up on key words, phrases and sentences. As we traveled and immersed ourselves in the city I became more comfortable speaking French. When we returned home I took French for a couple semesters and aced my classes. Once we were living in Paris for extended amounts of time I practiced my French daily and became more comfortable with the language and my highlights were the occasions when I was mistaken for a Parisian native!
Over the last year or so, with so much going on and my lack of practice, all that I learned has basically disappeared. I’m in a weird place where I’m not a beginner anymore, but FAR from an expert, so finding a way to relearn all that I lost has been tough. I tried apps, books, etc but none of these have worked because I have the attention span of a three-year-old…and then I remembered how much I loved reading French magazines in Paris. I raced to the bookstore and found the latest copy of Glamour Paris. I just started reading it and have to Google translate more than half of what I’m reading, but I’m taking my time and hoping this will help me. At the very least the next time I’m in need of macarons I would love to order in French, instead of just saying pistachio with the proper accent!
