“Every time we choose what we are going to wear, we make a statement about who we are in the world” – Bruce Friedrich
Recently one of my very dearest friends asked me for an opinion on a shoe style (Chucks vs Vans). Anyone who reads this post may realize I get passionate when discussing pros, cons and everything in between on my shoe opinions. After my (lengthy!) email reply, I kept thinking about making choice with these casual shoes and realized I have both because I cannot pick a favorite.
Both rather different styles speak to different aspects of myself, my character and my lifestyle. When I slip on a pair of black or white Chucks I instantly feel like a cooler, downtown version of myself and am quickly transported to the streets of Europe where The Mister and I walked along many an avenue while I was wearing these comfy kicks. Recently one of my very dearest friends asked me for an opinion on a shoe style (Chucks vs Vans). I will swear up and down these are the greatest kicks.
But then the next day I’ll switch to my classic Vans slip-ons and I am now transported back to my childhood, growing up in Seattle running around sockless (I am a West Coast kid through and through who cannot bear the feel of socks worn with sneakers) in my favorite white canvas sneakers that were a dirty grey by the end of the season. To this day, those slip-on sneakers speak to an ease and casual attitude towards life; a way to just relax amidst the hustle and bustle of the day-to-day in your favorite casual kicks.
