In the right denim, a girl can conquer the world
Building a denim wardrobe is a necessity for any well-rounded closet. While we all have fit preferences, there are 5 classic styles that every girl should have to take her from season to season and event to event; skinny, boyfriend, distressed, black and flare. These pieces run the style gamut and can be paired with nearly any blouse or layers in your closet for a quick on-the-go outfit.
Denim has often been considered the equal-opportunity wardrobe piece. It comes in a myriad of styles, shapes, sizes, colors and price points. It fits in any budget and works for nearly any event. Denim has the ability to make you feel as though anything is possible; sporting the right pair of jeans can lift your attitude as instantly as that same pair of jeans lifted your derrière.
That perfect pair of jeans make you walk with confidence, feeling akin to the girl-on-the-go who can handle anything thrown at her. You need only look to editor-in-chief Vogue Paris Emmanuelle Alt and her impeccable denim styling to know that effortless style in denim is your goal. Because after all isn’t the effortless style you exude the ultimate point of denim?
Classic Skinny Jeans – The instant slimming factor and ease of pairing up this minimalist jean with any shoe style and blouse make this the one denim style that is a must in any denim wardrobe.
Classic Boyfriend Jeans – The relaxed fit makes these a go-to standard for weekends or casual days, yet paired with the right pointy-toed shoe these laid-back jeans become on-trend and just right for drinks with friends.
Classic Distressed Jeans – Fading, tears, rips, and general disheveled styling give off an air of insouciance that belies how much thought was put into this “oh-so casual” outfit, but the comfort factor of these carefully distressed jeans make the effort worthwhile.
Classic Black Jeans – Whether for date night, paired casually with sneakers on a weekday or tucked into a pair of cognac-colored boots in the fall, black jeans are the LDB of the denim world. The style and color are timeless, ensuring that any outfit paired with this classic jean will be polished.
Classic Flare Jeans – The styling of the 70s is omnipresent in many sartorial options and what could be more symbolic of the 70s than a classic flared jean? This leg-lengthening style works in any situation from casual days with flats or worn to the office with a pair of pumps.
One final (personal) style point – When it comes to fit and length, I prefer an ankle-length for my skinny jeans. This style fits my petite frame better (no hemming necessary), along with helping each style transition from season to season. The shorter length works just as well in the fall with ankle booties, stopping just above the shoe, and on through winter layered with cozy socks and knee boots. It then melds seamlessly into spring and summer with sneakers, flats or sandals as the ankle-length denim stop just above the ankle to give off a laissez-faire meets Audrey Hepburn-esque style.
