There are some wardrobe pieces that are a must-have and in the winter time a coat is obviously at the top of the list. But what about after you have your basic black coat that goes with everything and you are faced with yet another dreary grey day? I love to mix up my basic coat wardrobe with fun coats in a bright color or bold pattern and at the top of my wish list this year is a leopard print coat.
Leopard print has been worn in every decade and by every style icon; from Jackie O’ to Kate Moss and on to Jenna Lyons. These three style mavens have taken the go-to pattern in coat form and made it their own – whether as a crisp lady-like shift coat in the 60s by Jackie, casually thrown over her shoulders as she exited a club in London à la Kate, or paired with her trademark oversized black glasses, topknot and red lips like Jenna, leopard has repeatedly proven itself to be the go-to print and coat of choice for the fashion set.
Wearing this patterned coat will add a new depth of layer to your winter wardrobe. It will bring both a neutral and a bold pattern into your wardrobe all at once, along with adding a stylish element to a basic winter item.
Leopard is a noticeable pattern, so I prefer it paired with neutrals in shades of black and grey to allow the pattern to pop. Simple skinny black jeans, a soft sweater or tee, sneakers or a pair of sky-high heels and a classic black bag pull the look together. Add warm, wintry style with a cozy black beanie and a soft cashmere scarf (also in black) and you will be set to take on winter’s greyest days with style, ease and warmth.
